TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + AUGUST 29, 2010

On the Way...The parish office has been busy this summer with the registration of parishioners from St. Paul Parish as well as the re-registration at St. Peter Parish. Several people have questioned the purpose of re-registration. You would be surprised what such a process produces. Many people have moved and have not let the parish know. Other have changed their e-mail address. By the way, I want to thank you for letting us have your e-mail address which we treasure with confidentiality. The budget item on postage in this parish has dropped considerably. Parents who have children in Religious Education, liturgical ministers, parishioners in general can have immediate contact with the Parish office. Baptisms, Weddings, schedules, forms, can all be accessed by this modern technology. During the re-registration we have also been informed that some children needed Baptism, that some parents are a little tardy in getting their children to Holy Communion, that a non-Catholic desires to inquire about the Catholic Faith. We found out that some of you have changed telephone numbers, and even found out that some have changed their marital status. Even though it can be viewed by some as "a pain", this has truly become a tool for evangelization. It is not too late. If you have not registered or re-registered yet, please do so soon. There are forms available at the church doors as well as on the parish website at www.stpeteraub.org  Registration forms for Religious Education are also available on the website and at the church entryways.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION NEWS

All children from K-10 must register for Religious Education each year. The registration does not roll over from one year to the next. Registration forms can be found at the entryways to church.

Grades K-3: The children in grades K–3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week. Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly. However beginning with grade 1, students must attend classes on a weekly basis during the Mass, as the program for First Communion is a two-year program. Classes are held during all weekend Masses. We would need some volunteers to help out as monitors during the classes. Please contact the office if you can do this.

Generations of Faith: This program is designed for both parents and children. Parents who have children in grades 4–10 are asked to attend these monthly sessions. The adult session gives them an opportunity to refresh their memory on important matters of the faith as well as giving them the chance to share with other adults on pertinent issues of faith. All GOF classes are held 7 times during the year, on one Sunday afternoon each month, for 2 hours.

REGISTRATION FORMS for the 2010-11 Christian Formation year can be found at the entrances to church, on the back porch of the rectory, and also on our website www.stpeteraub.org . Please be sure to fill out BOTH SIDES completely and return to the office.

TEACHERS NEEDED: If you would be interested in helping with our weekly dismissals of K-3 during Mass, or at our once-a-month Generations of Faith sessions, please call Jake at 669-5134, or e-mail to stpetercf@comcast.net , and Jake will be in touch with you.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29

Second Reading: Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a

Gospel: Luke 14:1, 7-14

Human beings rarely have only one layer of motivation. We might think that we are doing something for all of the right motives, but there may be a mix of motives as to why we are doing those things. Some of those motives might be quite altruistic, others a bit selfish. It is essential that we are brutally honest with ourselves concerning all of these motives. When we know them, we can deal with them and purify them. If, on the other hand, we try to kid ourselves into thinking that we are acting from a perfectly pure motivation, then our somewhat less generous motives will tend to blindside us. WE will end up doing something (even the right thing) for the wrong reason.

R.C.I.A. - RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS: Do you feel something missing in your life? Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic faith? People are drawn to explore the Catholic faith for many different reasons. Perhaps they experienced a Catholic Mass at the time of a wedding or funeral and were attracted by the prayer and ritual. They may have witnessed the source of hope and comfort a Catholic relative, friend or co-worker found in their faith at a time of difficulty or crisis. Any one of these experiences—or a thousand more like them—might have started you thinking about what it would be like to be a Catholic. How do you find out? Where do you start? Call Jake Linxweiler at 669-5134.

RETROUVAILLE: Rediscover a loving marriage with a Retrouvaille weekend. To register for the weekend or for more information, call 1-800-470-2230 or visit www.HelpOurMarriage.com
