THE MOST HOLY TRINITY + MAY 30, 2010

On the Way.....The Due Diligence Report that is necessary in order to proceed in the Unification of St. Peter and St. Paul Parishes is now complete. There has been a thorough inspection of both properties; the pastor and the bookkeepers of both parishes have complied with requests by an independent auditor who was retained by the Diocese of Manchester; a complete inventory of the possessions of both parishes has been taken by an outside assessor. I have reviewed all of these documents. The Chairs of each Finance Council, Mr. Thomas Gregoire at St. Peter and Mr. Michael Pellerin at St. Paul, have also signed off. On June 2nd the entire report and all accompanying and pertinent material will be presented before the Diocesan Finance Council. The same will happen before the Presbyteral Council (Council of Priests and Consultors to the Bishop) on June 7. After that date, Bishop McCormack will render his decision as to whether the two parishes unify.

Also On the Way....I recall as a child hearing that May 30th was "Decoration Day", a day when the graves of all the veterans who had served in our nation's military services should be decorated. Later in the year, we would honor the living veterans on Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. Since then things have changed somewhat. "Decoration Day" is now Memorial Day and is always celebrated on the Monday closest to May 30th (I think) and now includes the decoration of all graves by family members. "Armistice Day" has become Veteran’s Day and also is celebrated on the closest Monday (I think). Nevertheless, on this occasion, we send our congratulations to one of our own prominent veterans, a veteran of the Landings on the coast of Normandy on and after June 6, 1944. Mr. George Gosselin was recently honored by the government of France as a "Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur" for his service in helping to liberate that nation from the occupation by Nazi troops. The "Invasion" marked the beginning of the end of hostilities, which would nevertheless continue for nearly another year in Europe and 15 months in the Pacific Theatre. Congratulations, George, from your pastor and fellow parishioners.

Also On the Way..Thank you so much to Kathy and Bill Toomey, who have donated a wheelchair for use on parish property.

SACRIFICIAL GIVING: Today’s Psalm reminds us that we have been crowned with glory and honor and given rule over the works of God’s hands. But we must be good stewards, for the Lord will surely hold us accountable for the use of those gifts!

PARISH RE-REGISTRATION

Our last parish-wide re-registration was in 2006. With the unification of St. Paul Parish with St. Peter Parish, we will take the opportunity to update all our records at this time. Forms can be found in the pews. Please take a few minutes to fill out this form completely. All information received is held in strictest confidence. You may bring the form home with you to complete, or take a few minutes after Mass today. There are tables and chairs set up in the back of church for your convenience. Completed forms may be left in the boxes on the tables, put in the collection basket, mailed to us at 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn, NH 03032-3123, or left on the back porch. Those who have registered from St. Paul Church on the orange registration form need not re-register. If you are new to the parish and have not registered, you are invited to do so at this time. Thank you.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION NEWS

All children from K-10 must register for Religious Education each year. The registration does not roll over from one year to the next.

Grades K-3: The children in grades K–3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week. Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly. However beginning with grade 1, students must attend classes on a weekly basis during the Mass, as the program for First Communion is a two year program. Classes are held during all weekend Masses. We would need some volunteers to help out as monitors during the classes. Please contact the office if you can do this.

Generations of Faith: This program is designed for both parents and children. Parents who have children in grades 4–10 are asked to attend these monthly sessions. The adult session gives them an opportunity to refresh their memory on important matters of the faith as well as giving them the chance to share with other adults on pertinent issues of faith. All GOF classes are held 7 times during the year, on one Sunday afternoon each month, for 2 hours.

REGISTRATION FORMS for the 2010-11 Christian Formation year can be found at the entrances to church, on the back porch of the rectory, and also on our website www.stpeteraub.org .

Please be sure to fill out BOTH SIDES completely and return to the office.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Proverbs 8:22-31

Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5

Gospel: John 16:12-15

The Trinity offers an alternative vision to how our human society can be structured. We often think in terms of competition. We might believe that if someone else profits in any way, then it must be stolen from me. This is called a zero based mentality in which there is only so much to go around and one must fight to maintain one's own portion.

The Trinity is a society based on cooperation and mutual respect. The Son willingly obeys the Father out of love, never feeling that this robs Him of His dignity. The Father only wants what is good for the Son. The Spirit is that love which unites the Father and the Son and us. How much healthier our societies (families, parishes, clubs, etc.) would be if they were based on the relationship of the Trinity.

THE SISTERS OF THE HOLY CROSS will be having their annual yard sale on Saturday,
