On the Way....

Prayer for Our Holy Family

Heavenly Father, You have given us the model of life in the Holy Family of Nazareth.

Help us, O Loving Father,To make our family another Nazareth where love, peace, and joy reign.

May we love one another as God loves each one of us, more and more each day,

And forgive each other's faults as you forgive our sins.

Help us, O Loving Father, to take whatever you give and give whatever you take with a big smile.

-- Adopted from a prayer by Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: 1 Samuel 1:20-22, 24-28

Second reading: 1 John 3:1-2, 21-24

Gospel: Luke 2:41-52

The Gospel of Luke consistently shows the Holy Family to be good and observant Jews (for this was the will of God). They travel to Jerusalem for the Passover festival (something that was encouraged of those who were righteous). It is odd that this is the only story for the period of time between when Jesus was an infant and when he began His public ministry.

One must ask why Luke included this particular story in his Gospel. The answer seems to be that, according to Luke, it was when Jesus discerned that He was both human and divine.

A Jewish boy was considered to be a man when he was around twelve years old. Luke is saying that when Jesus knew what it meant to be a man, He also knew that He was God. That is why this is the first moment that Jesus proclaims God to be His Father in heaven.

The description of Jesus speaking with the doctors in the temple does not mean that He was teaching them. It could easily be that He was so sincere, so honest, that He astounded them.

This scene might also be a preparation for Mary, His mother. Jesus was lost for three days when He was about His Father's business. Later, when Jesus died for our sins and was buried for three days, Mary would have to trust that He was about the Father's business again.

St. Peter High School CYO basketball team lost to St. Catherine 45–41. St. Peter’s was down 14 points in the 4th quarter before mounting a furious comeback. Nick Ryba was high scorer for St. Peter’s with 14 points. Tim Sullivan, Chris Emery and Alex Zapora each had 7 points to help St. Peter’s. Their next game is Sunday Dec. 27th at 12:00 pm at Hesser College, versus St. Pius.
