OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING + NOVEMBER 22, 2009

On the Way....Here is an outline of the process the Bishop asks us to use when two parishes such as St. Peter and St. Paul are in the process of being "unified":

(1) A request from the pastor to the bishop to consider a unification, which begins a process to investigate if a unification is appropriate. (July 13, 2009)

(2) The bishop grants the pastor permission to begin the process in conjunction with the Diocesan Office of Planning. (September 4, 2009)

(3) The process must involve consultation with, and involvement of, the Pastoral and Finance Councils of both parishes. (November 2 and November 17, 2009)

(4) An open meeting for all interested members of the two parishes, where they can ask questions, state opinions or make comments. (November 22, 2009)

(5) After the open meeting the pastor consults with the Pastoral Councils to consider what was said at the meeting and to make a final recommendation to the pastor. (November 30, 2009)

(6) The pastor writes to the bishop with his recommendation, including a summary of his consultations with parishioners and Pastoral and Finance Councils.

(7) If the bishop agrees with the recommendation, he orders a due diligence process which includes: an inventory of parish goods for each parish, including both ecclesiastical and secular goods; an audit of all accounts for each parish and its organizations; a review of the stipulation of any contracts, restricted gifts, bequests, memorials; a written summary of the financial condition of the church buildings and property.

(8) The bishop consults the Presbyteral Council (Council of Priests and College of Consultors), and the Diocesan Finance Council, providing all members with a copy of the due diligence package.

(9) After considering the counsel of the Presbyteral Council and the Diocesan Finance Council, the bishop makes his decision and communicates it to the pastor.

(10) If the bishop decides to unify the parishes, he will issue a Decree of Unification, which must be publicized and displayed in both parishes and includes the manner of initiating recourse (appeal process) against an administrative decree (bishop's decision).

Sunday afternoon, November 22 at 1 pm at St. Paul Church in Candia, interested members of both parishes are invited to the open meeting for questions, and comments, in order to comply with step #4 of the process outlined above.

On Monday, November 30, a joint meeting of both Pastoral Councils will be held at St. Peter Church, Conference Room, 7:00 pm, to comply with step #5.

Prayer for Thanksgiving

Dear God, in a world where much is available yet so many still go wanting, we thank you for all you have given us. In a time when family life is often fragmented and chaotic, we thank you for the family we have with us today. In a time when so many cannot express their faith, we thank you for our freedoms. In a world that moves ever more quickly, we thank you for this time today to share a meal with loved ones, and to rest, reflect and refresh ourselves on this Thanksgiving Day.

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH HEATING

THIS WINTER? As we begin this heating season, if you are having difficulty making ends meet, please call Fr. Dumont at 623-5429. If you are "skimping" on medical expenses or food to pay your heating bill, please call. If your budget is overtaxed because of limited income in the face of increased expenses, please call. Fr. Dumont will talk it over with you for a few minutes and determine the level of assistance. The matter will be held in the strictest confidence. Please remember in your prayers Jim and Meg Stack, who’s estates set up this fund for parishioners. Please remember your parish in your will.

REMINDER: THE FLU SEASON AND THE CELEBRATION OF MASS: At the recommendation of the NH Department of Health and Human Services, Bishop McCormack has instituted the following precautions that will remain in effect through cold and flu season:

(1) If you are ill, please stay home and refrain from attendance at Church celebrations.

(2) The Sign of Peace should be shared without touching hands or kissing. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the head in reverence to one another.

(3) Parishioners should receive Holy Communion in their hands, and not on their tongue. Parishioners who receive Holy Communion on the tongue by necessity (i.e., because of a disability) should receive at the end of Communion.

(4) The Precious Blood: Communion is only to be given in the species of the consecrated bread. If you are unable to receive Holy Communion in the species of the consecrated bread (Celiac Disease), please see the pastor.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Daniel 7:13-14

Second Reading: Revelation 1:5-8

Gospel: John 18:33b-37

The Gospel speaks of the kingship of Christ. It recounts the trial of Jesus before Pilate. Jesus explains to Pilate that His kingdom is not of this world. He did not come into this world to establish a political kingdom or to free the Jews from Roman dominion. Jesus came to set us free from our greater bondage, the bondage to sin and death. He does this by proclaiming in word and deed how much the Father loves us. Jesus is not a king who will reign upon a majestic throne and wear a crown of gold. He will reign upon a cross and wear a crown of thorns. But in doing this, he showed what true authority is. The authority of the rulers of this world is nothing but an illusion. They believe that they control events, but it is only love that can truly conquer. Jesus is the king of love upon the cross.

CHRISTMAS 2009: Next Sunday, November 29, is the First Sunday of Advent. Our Christmas information sheet is inserted in today’s bulletin.

RESPECT LIFE: A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer." Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life, n. 100

CMC/DARTMOUTH HITCHCOCK AFFILIATION: Fr. Dumont has received a letter from Bishop McCormack and invites those who are interested to read it. It is posted on the bulletin board in the vestibule.
