CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT is this weekend. For nearly 40 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has embodied Catholic social teaching through pursuing justice and upholding the dignity of the human person. CCHD funds community projects led by low-income individuals. As more Americans feel the weight of the economic crisis, CCHD needs your support in new week’s collection more than ever. There are flyers at the entrances to church, as well as envelopes. Thank you for your generosity.

SACRIFICIAL GIVING: The readings today speak of the end of the world and the coming of the Kingdom. The bishops’ pastoral on stewardship says clearly that "that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with this present life through the human goods, the worthy human purposes, which people foster now." May our good stewardship cause us to be numbered among the chosen on the last day.

SPECIAL JOINT MEETING: Pastoral Council and Finance Council will meet on Tuesday, November 17, at 6:30 pm, in the Parish Hall Conference Room. The Finance Council will continue their scheduled meeting following the joint meeting.

FYI: Our Thanksgiving Day Mass will be at 9:00 am, followed by coffee and donuts in the parish hall.

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH HEATING

THIS WINTER? Last year we received a donation from the Estate of Jim and Meg Stack, deceased of our parish. The stipulation was that the people of the parish who are in need would be the sole beneficiaries. So as we begin this heating season if you are having difficulty making ends meet, please call Fr. Dumont at 623-5429. If you are "skimping" on medical expenses or food to pay your heating bill, please call. If your budget is overtaxed because of limited income in the face of increased expenses, please call. Fr. Dumont will talk it over with you for a few minutes and determine the level of assistance. The matter will be held in the strictest confidence. Please remember in your prayers these benefactors, Jim and Meg. Please remember your parish in your will.

REMINDER: THE FLU SEASON AND THE CELEBRATION OF MASS: At the recommendation of the NH Department of Health and Human Services, Bishop McCormack has instituted the following precautions that will remain in effect through cold and flu season:

(1) If you are ill, please stay home and refrain from attendance at Church celebrations.

(2) The Sign of Peace should be shared without touching hands or kissing. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the head in reverence to one another.

(3) Parishioners should receive Holy Communion in their hands, and not on their tongue. Parishioners who receive Holy Communion on the tongue by necessity (i.e., because of a disability) should receive at the end of Communion.

(4) The Precious Blood: Communion is only to be given in the species of the consecrated bread. If you are unable to receive Holy Communion in the species of the consecrated bread (Celiac Disease), please see the pastor.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Daniel 12:1-3

Second Reading: Hebrews 10:11-14, 18

Gospel: Mark 13:24-32

In the Gospel Jesus speaks of the end of the world. He uses language that was in vogue during His time, e.g., tribulation, cosmic disturbances, etc. It is not clear if Jesus intended this to be understood literally, or if it was a symbolic way of saying that the world would come to an end. Jesus also speaks of the Son of Man descending upon a cloud. This is a citation from the Book of Daniel, which states that the Son of Man will appear before the Ancient One (Yahweh) to receive power and dominion. Jesus is saying that He will rule over the heavens and the earth at the end of time. Jesus tells his listeners to look for the signs, but He also tells them that no one knows when it will occur. We are always seeing signs of our own end (e.g., gray hair, pain, etc.). These are reminders that we will not last forever, and therefore should be ready for our end. As for the end of the world, while we believe in it, we do not know when it will occur.
