TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

On the Way...

Despite many medical and physical challenges, Fred Frisella continues to perform his job remarkably. The floor in the church looks "simply marvelous". Of course he sweeps the floor and under the pews after the weekend Masses are over. This makes the general washing and waxing a little easier, but nevertheless the back-breaking hours are there. Fred and his wife, Roberta (Bobbi), have been working at St. Peter for several years. Bobbi has performed many household tasks at the rectory. She has worked here for over 11 years. Her husband has worked in and around the property for over 9 years. The accumulating number of birthdays (I know nothing!) and some medical issues are precipitating their retirement. Their retirement is effective the last day of September. They promised that they will still maintain their volunteer status in the parish. I wish them rest and some relaxation and good health. Thank you for your dedicated years of service to the parish and the priests you have served at the rectory.

PARISH NURSE: Friday from 7:30-10:00 am.

WEEKLY OFFERTORY: $6,034.

MEDICAL MISSIONARIES OF MARY APPEAL: $1,056. We received the following from Kathleen Albee, who spoke at our Masses on behalf of the Medical Missionaries of Mary.

"Father, I am so grateful for having met you and members of your parish. Your generosity and welcome are wonderful examples of the caring and compassion of your faith community. Last weekend was a blessing for me. Please extend my gratitude to all your parishioners. They filled my heart, and in turn their love and caring extends to the people we serve."

THE ANNUAL CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY APPEAL is this weekend. The Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States, located in Washington, D.C. It provides an academically rigorous education guided by Catholic intellectual tradition to 6,000 students every year. Every dollar given directly supports financial aid for students from dioceses across the country, including ours. Thank you in advance for your generosity. (We are assessed $1,084 for this collection, so any donation you make will be helpful.)

SACRIFICIAL GIVING: In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for those who do not put their faith into action. May we be such good stewards of God’s gifts to us that we can never be accused of having "faith that does nothing in practice".

FEATURED AD OF THE WEEK

Many thanks to parishioner Jean Wozniak for placing an ad on our bulletin.

40 Days for Life - Manchester!!!!

40 Days for Life will be in Manchester, NH, along with over 200 other cities this Fall, from September 23 through November 1. Please join us in our campaign to end abortion with prayer, fasting and peaceful witness at Planned Parenthood, 24 Pennacook Street. The ministry has raised awareness in our community. Before 40 Days, there were only a handful of people praying at the abortion clinic. Many people didn’t even know there was an abortion clinic in Manchester. Now more people come to pray at the clinic, especially on the day they do the surgical abortions. Catholics and Protestants have prayed together, people have stepped forward to help those in crisis pregnancy, and 3 lives THAT WE KNOW OF were saved. If anyone goes to that clinic, feeling alone and desperate, and wondering where the Christians are to help them, some one is there at least an hour each day, Thanks be to God. We do need more people though. Planned Parenthood is open about 47 hours each week. We hope to get enough people to have a presence there 12 hours a day, from 7 am to 7 pm, during the 40 Days. Come to the Kick-off Rally, Tues, Sept 22, 6:30 pm, 24 Pennacook Street

ST. PETER CHURCH WOMEN’S GUILD OFFICERS for the coming year will be installed at the 4:00 Mass next Sat., Sept. 19. All members are invited to attend and sit together in the reserved pews. This installation of officers is a fitting occasion to send up a prayer to God for all the benefits the members enjoy and all the good works they do. The first meeting of the 2009-10 year is on Tuesday, September 22, at 7 pm in the Parish Hall Conference Room. All women of the parish 18 and older are cordially invited to become members and enjoy a few pleasant hours with other Guild members every month. It is a time for socialization, outings, prayer, a "night out" in good company. Please come and bring a friend. You may contact Dot Zube at 434-7921 if you have any questions. See you there!

ST. PETER CHURCH BOWLING LEAGUE: On Monday, September 14, at 9:00 pm, we will start another fun-filled bowling season at Lakeside Lanes. We are made up of fellow parishioners and friends who are out to have some fun, and would welcome any new members to join us. If you are interested, please call Anne Vargas at 483-2664 or John Zube at 434-7921.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Isaiah 50:4c-9a

Second Reading: James 2:14-18

Gospel: Mark 8:27-35

As we hear Christ ask the disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" we should remember that the question is also addressed to us. Do we want a powerful miracle-worker who will solve all of our problems, or do we want someone who challenges us to love and serve and die to ourselves so that we might live in Him?

Annual Duck Race: Sponsored by the Auburn Historical Association, to be held on Saturday, September 19, at the Griffin Dam. Festivities begin at 12 noon, and ducks are to be launched at 2:30 pm. First Prize $1,000; 2nd prize $500; 3rd prize $250, and so on. A fun day for the family!
