TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + AUGUST 23, 2009

On the Way....

The Annual Mission Cooperative is a way of making sure that each parish in the Diocese receives at least one missionary at least once per year. It was also meant to curb the abuse in some parishes where there was a mission appeal every time the pastor went on vacation, often once per month!!! Please prepare yourselves for this appeal next weekend by going over the information printed elsewhere in this bulletin.

Also On the Way.... Every time I leave the Massabesic Traffic Circle and set my eyes on our church property I have a sense of beauty and peace. The property is beautiful, the buildings serene, the grounds well cared for. At this time of the year lawn and shrub care take a lot of time. For this we thank Jim Delacoe (volunteer) for his oversight. He is the lawn doctor and he feeds it and nourishes it and gives it medicine as any good doctor does. Hats off to Pete Sutton who can be seen riding the lawn mower and swinging the weed whacker. Special "thumbs-up" to Fred Frisella and Don Huntress (volunteer) for their annual meticulous care of the evergreen shrubs.

Also On the Way.... As many of you know we experienced the end of an era last weekend at St. Peter when the last of the Karpinskis got up from the organ bench and prepared herself to go to college. Beginning with Cassandra, who entered eternal life in 2007, continuing with Olivia and capping it off with Andrea, we have been blessed by their talent and graciousness.

WEEKLY OFFERTORY: $5,414

This weekend is the ANNUAL APPEAL FOR N.H. MISSIONS ABROAD AND MIGRANT AND HISPANIC MINISTRY IN N.H. Catholics from N.H. currently serve as missionaries in Cartago, Columbia, and in Juticalpa, Honduras. This collection supports their work and the ministry to migrants and refugees who have come to New Hampshire. Please be generous.

PARISH NURSE: Friday from 7:30-10:00 am.

NEXT WEEKEND we welcome Kathleen Albee, of the Medical Missionaries of Mary, for our annual Guest Mission appeal. The Medical Missionaries of Mary are an international missionary congregation of women religious. They strive to look and live beyond the barriers of culture, religion, and language to help the poor, the oppressed and the marginalized. They number about 370 sisters working in nine African countries, as well as Brazil, Honduras, Europe and the United States. The sisters are involved in numerous fields of health care: curative medicine, surgery, obstetrics, and public health work and education. They rely on the generosity of others to continue their missionary work. Please be generous. You may place your donation in your weekly envelope, noting the amount, or in a plain envelope addressed to "sisters". Please make checks payable to St. Peter Church. Thank you.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b

Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32

Gospel: John 6:60-69

Today’s readings remind us that the Eucharist is not a right, but a privilege, and one that requires a certain degree of consistency. If we want to be one with the Lord, then we must give witness to that relationship in our everyday lives.

FROM THE DIOCESE: Child sexual abuse is a crime in the State of New Hampshire and the Church. New Hampshire law requires that anyone who has reason to suspect that a child is being or has been abused or neglected must make a report to the Division for Children, Youth & Families ("DCYF") of the State of New Hampshire, 1-800-894-5533. Any person who suspects or alleges child abuse on the part of a priest, deacon, employee, or volunteer of a parish, school, or institution of the Diocese of Manchester is also encouraged to make a report to the Office for Ministerial Conduct at 669-3100. Church personnel: clergy, paid employees, and volunteers, have additional reporting requirements if they believe that Church personnel have sexually abused a child. To learn more about the reporting requirements, go to the diocesan website under Child Safety: www.catholicnh.org.
