SACRIFICIAL GIVING:
This weekend as we celebrate the Independence of our country, we will do well to echo the Psalmist, saying, "Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy." May we always recognize and use wisely the gifts of freedom and abundance He has showered upon us.
LOST AND FOUND: Please take a minute to look through the items on the table in back of church.
OUR MONTHLY FOOD DRIVE this weekend is for the Sonshine Soup Kitchen in Derry. Items most needed are instant mashed potatoes, egg noodles, canned chicken or turkey, canned vegetables, cereal, spaghetti sauce.
ORGANIST NEEDED: We are in search of an organist to help at weekend Masses. This is a paid position. Mrs. Helene Belanger, our regular organist, usually plays at 2 Masses per weekend. If you or anyone you know can step in, please let Fr. Dumont know at 623-5429. There will be training and assistance from Mrs. Belanger
N.H. CATHOLIC CHARITIES: The latest report from Catholic Charities for our parish: $22,639.98. There are envelopes at the entryways to church if you would like to make a donation to this worthwhile organization. Thank you.
FROM RESPECT LIFE: In the present situation of our nation, a serious question has arisen about the moral obligation of Catholics to work for the overturning of the Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. There are those who would tell us that such work is futile and, therefore, to be abandoned, so that we can devote ourselves to help prevent individuals from choosing abortion. As Catholics, we can never cease to work for the correction of gravely unjust laws. Law is the fundamental expression of our culture and implicitly teaches citizens what is morally acceptable. Our efforts to assist those who are tempted to do what is always and everywhere wrong or are suffering from the effects of having committed a gravely immoral act … ultimately make little sense, if we remain idle regarding unjust laws and decisions of courts regarding the same intrinsic evils. We are never justified in abandoning the work of changing legislation and of reversing decisions of the courts which are anti-life and anti-family.
--Most Rev. Raymond L. Burke, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, Address to the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, May 8, 2009

CHRISTIAN FORMATION NEWS
All children from K–10 must register for the Fall Christian Formation program each year. The registration does not roll over from one year to the next. Registration forms can be found at the entrances to church, on the back porch of the rectory, or at our website - www.stpeteraub.org . If your child is new to the program, please submit a Baptism Certificate, if not baptized at St. Peter Church. If you would like to volunteer to help with any of the following, please call Jake at 669-5134 and he will be in touch with you.
Grades K- 3 The children in grades K–3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week. Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly. However, beginning with grade 1, students must attend classes on a weekly basis during the Mass, as the program for First Communion is a two-year program. The program for the school year 2009-2010 will begin on the weekend of September 26/27. Classes are held during all weekend Masses.
Generations of Faith: Grades 4–10 and parents. This program is designed for both parents and children. Parents who have children in grades 4-10 are asked to attend these monthly sessions. The adult session gives them an opportunity to refresh their memory on important matters of the faith as well as giving them the chance to share with other adults on pertinent issues of faith. GOF classes are held one Sunday a month from 4–6 pm. Our first session for 2009-10 is October 18. See you all next fall.
Confirmation Program: The Confirmation students will begin their two-year program on Sunday, October 4, 2009. Students are asked to attend the 11:00 am Mass, and class follows until 1:00 pm. Students must be registered in the program and must be registered members of the parish.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
First Reading: Ezekiel 2:2-5
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Gospel: Mark 6:1-6
As we saw last week, St. Mark established a pattern in chapters 4 and 5 to show that Jesus could perform any type of miracle (nature, exorcism, and healing.) Jesus could "do it all". Then, at the beginning of chapter 6, Jesus enters the synagogue in his hometown. One would have expected the townspeople to be filled with joy and pride. Instead, they are unwilling to accept Him. They knew him too well and refused to believe that He could be more than what they expected Him to be. They were guilty of choosing to be obtuse and lacking in faith.
The phrase "brothers and sisters of Jesus" probably refers to His cousins.
