PENTECOST SUNDAY + MAY 31, 2009
On the Way....
Deacon George Borkush has received permission from Bishop McCormack to retire from active ministry. Deacon George will conclude his ministry here and at St. Paul Parish in Candia at the end of the month of June. Although the majority of you have only met the Deacon when he assisted at weekend Masses, much, if not most of his ministry, was more private. Deacon George has baptized dozens of infants, gone to numerous wakes and cemetery committal services. He and his wife Dede have worked with couples preparing for marriage and Deacon George has witnessed the vows these young men and women gave each other. Deacon George has been an exceptional partner in ministry and a very easy-going, affable and approachable man. Not only will our two parishes miss him, but so will I.
George and Dede have three sons and all the attendant grandchildren. Dede also keeps a watchful eye on her Dad. So the years ahead will hopefully give the Borkushes some time to spend with each other and with family. Thank you, Deacon George. May God reward you in over 25 years as a Deacon.

5/26/09 The Catholic Church in New Hampshire’s Response to Concerns Regarding Swine Flu
In light of current concerns about the spread of the swine flu, the Catholic Church in New Hampshire is taking the following temporary precautions during Masses and other celebrations:
Bishop John McCormack reminds parishioners who feel ill to stay at home and refrain from attendance at Church celebrations until they are fully recovered.
The faithful are encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching hands or kissing. This can be done verbally and with a bow of the head.
The faithful are strongly urged to receive Communion in their hands, and not on their tongue.
The consecrated wine will not be shared until further notice.
Priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion must wash their hands before Mass begins and are encouraged to use an alcohol-based anti-bacterial solution before and after distributing Holy Communion
Greeters and ushers will use verbal greetings only and not shake hands with parishioners.
WEEKLY OFFERTORY: $4,071
FEAST OF THE ASCENSION: $817
SACRIFICIAL GIVING: St. Paul reminds us today that all of our gifts have their source in the Holy Spirit and that those gifts are given "for the common good". What gifts are mine to share?

OUR
MONTHLY FOOD DRIVE on
June 6/7 is for New Horizons of NH. Items most needed are coffee, non-dairy
creamer, cereal, tuna, canned tomatoes or sauce, and canned baked beans. A
note from Lisa at New Horizons: "I can't say enough how St. Peter's
Church's food drives help us out. As I'm sure you're well aware from doing the
ongoing food drives the summer is a particularly slow period for us in regards
to incoming donations, however both our soup kitchen and food pantry are
higher than ever for clientele so we really appreciate St. Peter's continued,
generous drives.
Thanks so much-Lisa"
GROUP WORK CAMP BAKE SALE: Next weekend, June 6/7, after all Masses. If you would like to donate a baked item, please bring it before Mass, or you may leave it on the back porch of the rectory.
PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS those who died last week, and especially Dr. Charles Laflamme, father of Susan Marineau of this parish.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION NEWS
All children from K–10 must register for the Fall Christian Formation program each year. The registration does not roll over from one year to the next. Registration forms can be found at the entrances to church, on the back porch of the rectory, or at our website - www.stpeteraub.org . If your child is new to the program, please submit a Baptism Certificate, if not baptized at St. Peter Church. If you would like to volunteer to help with any of the following, please call Jake at 669-5134 and he will be in touch with you.
Grades K- 3 The children in grades K–3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week. Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly. However, beginning with grade 1, students must attend classes on a weekly basis during the Mass, as the program for First Communion is a two-year program. The program for the school year 2009-2010 will begin on the weekend of September 26/27. Classes are held during all weekend Masses.
Generations of Faith: Grades 4–10 and parents. This program is designed for both parents and children. Parents who have children in grades 4-10 are asked to attend these monthly sessions. The adult session gives them an opportunity to refresh their memory on important matters of the faith as well as giving them the chance to share with other adults on pertinent issues of faith. GOF classes are held one Sunday a month from 4–6 pm. Our first session for 2009-10 is October 18. See you all next fall.
Confirmation Program: The Confirmation students will begin their two-year program on Sunday, October 4, 2009. Students are asked to attend the 11:00 am Mass, and class follows until 1:00 pm. Students must be registered in the program and must be registered members of the parish.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
First Reading: Acts 2: 1-11
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12- 13
Gospel: John 20: 19-23
Having heard the Acts version of the descent of the Holy Spirit, we now hear the version contained in the Gospel of John. Jesus breathes upon the disciples to give them the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is in imitation of how God created Adam. God breathed His spirit into Adam and he came to life. In this account, Jesus breathes His Holy Spirit into the disciples and they are given new life in Him.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is also associated with the forgiveness of our sins. The Spirit is God's love and is so filled with mercy that it brings us pardon. The sin against the Spirit is to believe that our sins are unforgivable or to presume upon God's mercy by only pretending to be sorry for what we have done.
FROM RESPECT LIFE: The Feast of Pentecost reminds us that we in the pro-life movement are called to be channels of God’s Word: "Counteracting the culture of death demands a prophetic spirituality...We speak the prophetic word that challenges society to recognize the unborn as brothers and sisters, and to therefore repent of practices and policies that destroy them or put them at risk." (Jim Pinto, Jr., Coordinator of Missionaries of the Gospel of Life, Priests for Life Newsletter, July-August, 2006)
Camp Invention 2009: Does your child enjoy taking things apart and creating things from the pieces? Does your child like to perform science experiments? If so, then you should sign up your child for Camp Invention 2009. The programs offered during this camp will include Viking Treasure Trek, Comic Book Science, Land Sled X-Treme, I Can Invent, and Recess Remix. Camp Invention will be held at St. Anthony School and will be running from June 23rd- June 26th from 8:00 to 4:00. If you would like to learn more about this program, please contact Eileen Perry at 622-0414 for more details.
