THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER + APRIL 26, 2009
On the Way....
At the Pastoral Council Meeting last Tuesday, the following were selected as officers for the 2009-2010 year: Chair: Mary Ann Moser Vice-Chair: Marie King Secretary: Kathryn Rogers
We also welcomed new members Mark Somerville and Linda Bouchard, and welcomed back Tom Gregoire as Finance Council representative. Other members: Ken Robinson, Debbie Raiche, and Yvette Beland. Jake Linxweiler is an ex-officio member. With the pastor, these parishioners will do all in their power, with the help of the Risen Lord, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ and His Church in this parish.
Also On the Way.... I will be away this week for a Convocation of all the priests of the Diocese of Manchester. Bishop McCormack has called us together for prayer, reflection, instruction and fellowship. Because of the Convocation, there will not be any Mass here on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
Also On the Way.... we congratulate the young men and women of the parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Sunday. Bishop McCormack and a church full of relatives and friends prayed before the living God that these young people continue to remember and celebrate Jesus Christ in their lives as they continue on their way through life.

Miracles Happen Every Day: Since 1945, New Hampshire Catholic Charities has responded to the needs of people from every walk of life in communities throughout the state. Our caring staff has comforted grieving families, held the hands of scared children, provided hope for families struggling through difficult times, and helped people through personal crisis. This year the call to help is stronger than ever, and Catholic Charities is faced with the challenge to answer. The annual appeal is a primary source of funding for Catholic Charities. It is through your generosity that we, as a diocese and parish community, can serve the less fortunate. All registered parishioners should have received their NHCC packet this week, which included a letter from the pastor, a pamphlet explaining the services offered by NHCC, and a pre-labeled donation envelope. If you did not receive an envelope, there are extras at the entryways to church. Please give what you can to help our neighbors in need. You make miracles happen when you make a gift.
OUR MONTHLY FOOD DRIVE next weekend is for St. Paul Church’s Food Pantry. Items most needed are tuna, jelly, canned pasta, beef stew, evaporated milk.
FIRST COMMUNION: Next weekend, May 2 and 3, thirty-eight of our young parishioners will be making their first Holy Communion. There will be more available seating at the at 8:00 am Mass, since the majority of the children will be at the 4:00 pm and 11:00 am Masses. Fr. Dumont will be available after each Mass to bless religious articles, First Communion gifts, and sign the children’s books.
SACRIFICIAL GIVING: The disciples in today’s Gospel came to know Jesus in the breaking of the bread. When we share what we have with those who are in need, we, too, will discover Jesus in our midst.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
First Reading: Acts: 3:13-15, 17-19
Second Reading: 1 John 2:1-5a
Gospel: Luke 24:35-48
Some recent books have questioned the truth of the Resurrection of Jesus. This is the very core of our faith. There are a few things we could consider when we reflect upon the Resurrection.
First of all, how likely would it have been that these mostly uneducated men would have had the courage to preach the Resurrection if it had not occurred?
Second, even in the accounts, the disciples are not pictured as being perfect (e.g., Thomas doubts, Peter enters the tomb and sees but is not said to believe, etc.) if the disciples were making it up, would they have not emphasized the success of their own witness?
Finally, in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul says that over 500 people witnessed the resurrected Jesus, some of whom were still alive when he was writing to the Corinthians. This is a fact that the people could check. He would not have dared to say it if it were not true.
FROM RESPECT LIFE... "One day...our nation will..look back on what we have been doing to innocent human beings within their mothers as a crime no less heinous than what was approved by the Supreme Court in the ‘Dred Scott case’ in the 19th century, and no less heinous than what was perpetrated by Hitler and Stalin in the 20th." Cardinal Edward Egan in Catholic New York, October 23, 2008
