THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

 DECEMBER 28, 2008

On the Way....

On this Third Day of Christmas, Merry Christmas, once again!! The birth of Jesus in the home of Mary and Joseph, by its very definition, makes your home a place where the seeds of holiness are sown. Holiness can be a fearful word for many of us: untouchable, distant, inhuman, etc. The exact opposite is true. Jesus, Son of a God who seemed distant, became close, touchable, human. He thus left us the recipe, the formula for holiness: be human, get close to others, touch their lives.

Also On the Way.... Thank you to so many of you who sent cards to the shut-ins of our parish; they are truly touched by your thoughtfulness. Also, thank you to all who gave gifts to the nursing home and Kid’s Cafe, sent greetings and made calorific confections for your pastor and resident priests.

May the New Year 2009 bring you and yours Holiness, Health and Happiness.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Genesis 15:106; 21:1-3

Second Reading: Hebrews 11:8, 11-12, 17-19

Gospel: Luke 2:22-40

There are really no perfect families upon the earth. They only seem that way at times because we don’t know what is going on inside of their homes. Even the Holy Family had its difficulties, e.g., homeless, in exile, etc. Yet, they responded to those difficulties in a way that made these things into occasions of grace. We have the same challenge today with our own family problems.
