THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + OCTOBER 26, 2008
On the Way....
www.stpeteraub.org is the internet address for the parish website. Created and meticulously maintained by parishioner Kathryn Rogers, the website is not only interesting but also brought up to date at least once per week with the insertion of the parish bulletin. Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Altar Servers can find their schedule; there are direct links to neighboring parishes, the Diocesan Offices, even the Vatican! Through these links you can find Mass times in places to which you are traveling, the address and telephone number of the parish where your children were baptized, a short meditation for the day, pertinent information on Generations of Faith and Christian Formation events in the parish, helpful information and tips for the passing on of the Faith to your children, Group Work Camp information, on-line courses, Church documents, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, explanations of the teachings of Jesus and His Church, and more.
Interestingly enough, the parish web page and e-mail have helped save quite a bit of money to the parish. When you provide us with your e-mail address, we save the cost of postage, the paper and the envelope.
We no longer need to order envelopes by the thousands, and we have significantly cut back on postage expenses. If you have not already done so, you can provide the parish office with your e-mail address where it will be kept with the same confidentiality as your census information is, and will be used only for parish purposes. Although the Internet can be a very dangerous place if not properly used, it can be a most wholesome and valuable place to do business. It can be similar to shopping at the mall: there are shops that interest us, others we know we want to avoid; there are strangers who walk around us, and we can be pleasant and at the same time careful; there are hundreds of things that we see and hear, yet we know we cannot have them all, nor do we want many or most of them. Kathryn has set up some safe directions on the parish web page; use these safe directions to places that can deepen your faith. Thank you, Kathryn for being a good steward and navigator to the people of St. Peter Parish.
Also, On the Way, St. Peter Parish wishes to congratulate Deacon George Borkush on his 25th anniversary of ordination as a Permanent Deacon. I invite you to go to the Parish website, click on "Bulletin", and you will see the link Kathryn added to the article regarding Deacon George and his wife, Dede, along with a beautiful picture of them.

Their names have also been added to our BOOK OF LIFE, which will be displayed in the back of church from November 1-23. (We have placed some blank pages in the back of the book for those of you who would like to add names of deceased loved ones to be remembered at all Masses through November 23.

REFLECTIONS OF THE WEEK
First Reading: Exodus 22:20-26
Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10
Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40
Once again we hear the leaders of the Jews, the Pharisees, and the Saducees, trying to confound Jesus. Again, they are not interested in the truth. All they are interested in is to gain the upper hand over him. They ask Jesus what the greatest commandment is. Jesus responds with the great commandment: that we should love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, soul and mind, and that we should love our neighbors as ourselves. Love, for it to be true, must have a vertical dimension (love of God) and a horizontal dimension (love of neighbor). One without the other is unbalanced and not true love.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Who do I imitate?
Do I let others imitate me?
When we look up to someone, they can inspire us. It does not mean that they don’t have faults or even sins, but their good example can be inspiring. On the other hand, I must set an example for others. This is a good time to make a list of those who have meant a lot to you and also those who look up to you.
