FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + JULY 6, 2008
On the Way....
I want to encourage as many of you as possible to participate in the Parish Picture Directory. The only cost will be a less than an hour your time to sit for a photo, and to then select the picture for the Directory. I know that many of you do not desire any other pictures so may have decided to stay away. The company guarantees that you are under no obligation, and you still get your own 8x10 photo and a parish directory, both for free. I personally have never bought extra packages and have felt no pressure to do so. Should you desire to purchase extra photos, Olan Mills offers reasonable packages, but as I said, you are under NO obligation to buy extra photos. There is more information elsewhere in this bulletin. I urge you to read it.. I encourage you to sign up now and ensure your participation in this 60th Anniversary Album of St. Peter Parish.

PARISH DIRECTORY
This year, 2008, marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of our parish. We are going to celebrate by putting together a parish picture directory, through Olan Mills. We hope to have as many people/families in our directory as possible. This offer is open to all REGISTERED parishioners. All you have to do is schedule an appointment and have your picture taken, and you will receive, FREE, an 8 x 10 color portrait, mailed directlyl to your home, AND a parish directory, which will be published later in the year. If you wish, you may take the opportunity to order extra photos from Olan Mills at a very reasonable cost. When making your appointment, keep in mind that you need to commit to about 45 minutes since you will be selecting your photo shortly after your sitting. The scheduled dates are August 12, 13 and 14, from 3:00 pm - 9:20 pm. We also have scheduled dates on September 18, 19 and 20. We scheduled August dates for those of you who have family members going off to college, or have a busy September and would do better to schedule in August. You may schedule appointments in one of two ways:
1. Online - go to the parish website, www.stpeteraub.org and click on the link to Olan Mills. You will then be asked to fill in the information, along with your e-mail address and a password that you select. (remember to keep a record of your password!) Please fill in your address information so that we may check against our own records, but again, we will NOT be publishing addresses or phone numbers. You then save the information - a second page will come up where you can select a time slot in August or September. If you need to change your appointment, you can just go back to the site and sign in. You will be reminded of your appointment via e-mail by Olan Mills.
2. In Church - beginning this weekend, July 5/6, you may schedule your appointment at the table in the back of church. You will fill in the number of people in the portrait, the family name, and your phone number. Olan Mills will call you to remind you of your appointment time. Any questions, call Shirley at 623-5429.
TEACHERS NEEDED: If you would be interested in helping with weekly dismissals of K-3 during Mass, or at our once-a-month Generations of Faith sessions, please call Jake at 669-5134, or e-mail to stpetercf@comcast.net , and Jake will be in touch with you.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
First Reading: Zechariah 9:9-10
Second Reading: Romans 8:9, 11-13
Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30
Jesus speaks of those who are invited into the wisdom of the Lord of heaven and earth. It is not the rich and powerful; it is the little ones. It is the simple who are humble enough to listen to God. They know that they are not self-sufficient and that they need the help of the Lord. The proud, on the other hand, think themselves to be in charge. They are not ready to listen; they tell God what they want Him to say and do. That is why Jesus invites the meek and humble of heart to come to Him. He offers comfort and healing. Once we place our troubles in the hands of the Lord and acknowledge that He alone can save us, then we find an incredible peace. This is not resignation; it is surrender to the will of God.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
How do I practice the virtue of humility?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in describing humility, reminds us that it is the very foundation of prayer. If I want to be able to pray, I must acknowledge that God is the author of all good. This is where we all must start. Prayer is how we connect with God the Father through Jesus Christ. In today's Gospel excerpt, Jesus says that we should come to Him. Another aspect of the virtue of humility is that it "avoids inordinate ambition or pride". Humility is also what is often called "poverty of spirit". In pondering these aspects of the virtue, there is much I can put into practice in my life.
REGISTRATION FORMS FOR 2008-09 CHRISTIAN FORMATION are available at the entryways to church. Please fill in the Family information section completely. If your child was not registered in our program this year, please submit a Baptism record, unless the Baptism took place at St. Peter Church. Call Jake at 669-5134, or e-mail stpetercf@comcast.net if you have any questions.
