TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME + JUNE 22, 2008

On the Way....

I want to not only thank Father Bilodeau, but also Father Babineau who has been his usual generous self during my absence. Father Babineau is covering weekday Masses and any funerals to be celebrated here or at St. Paul Parish in Candia.

ALERT!!! PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN GRADES K-10 (2007-2008)

Due to an oversight on the part of St. Peter Parish, your child(ren) did not participate in safe environment training last year. As you know, the Diocese of Manchester must be assured that children and young people of the Diocese be informed with the program called Circles of Care. Because of this oversight, it is imperative that you receive these materials and use them to train your children at home. Personally addressed packets are available on the table set up at the rear of the church. Please pick your packet up today. (It would help us if you would also deliver your neighbors’ packets as well!) If you would like more information regarding Circles of Care, you may view the classroom lessons online at www.catholicnh.org  under Child Safety: Training: Circles of Care. In addition, the website contains articles, parent guides and other reference materials on child safety topics.

HOW TO MAKE A REPORT OF SEXUAL ABUSE

Child sexual abuse is a crime in the State of New Hampshire and the Church. New Hampshire law requires that anyone who has reason to suspect that a child is being or has been abused or neglected must make a report to the Division for Children, Youth & Families ("DCYF") of the State of New Hampshire, 1-800-894-5533. Any person who suspects or alleges child abuse on the part of a priest, deacon, employee, or volunteer of a parish, school, or institution of the diocese of Manchester is also encouraged to make a report to the Office for Ministerial Conduct, 603-669-3100.

Church personnel - clergy, paid employees, and volunteers - have additional reporting requirements if they believe that Church personnel have sexually abused a child. To learn more about the reporting requirements, see Tim and Marie King, the safe environment coordinators for our parish, or the diocesan website under Child Safety: www.catholicnh.org .

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK

First Reading: Jeremiah 20:10-13

Second Reading: Romans 5:12-15

Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33

What exactly does God promise us in this life? Some preachers would say that if we are good Christians, then we will be financially successful, we will be healthy, and we will always have a happy family life. Likewise, when one goes to a healing service, one often hears that if one has faith, then one will surely be healed. Yet, it does not always turn out that way. Good people sometimes have miserable lives. People who have great faith sometimes have miserable lives. People who have great faith sometimes die from their illnesses. Those who are most faithful, in fact, often seem to be persecuted. God’s promise is that He will always be there for us, not that He will make it all better for us here upon the earth. Only in heaven will every tear be wiped away and every wound healed.

RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: The Rite of Christian Initiation takes place yearly at the Easter Vigil - Holy Saturday. This is the time when adults who have never been baptized in the Christian faith are baptized. It is also the time when baptized Christians of other Christian denominations are welcomed into the Catholic Church as they make a public profession of faith. This rite is also offered to baptized Catholics who were not fully initiated into the Church (never made their First Communion or Confirmation). As a general rule, this rite is not for adults who have received their First Communion, but never been confirmed. If Confirmation is the only sacrament they have not received, there will be a special course given for them during the year and an adult Confirmation will be held at the Cathedral in the Spring. If you or someone you know is a candidate for the Rite of Initiation or if someone is interested in finding out more about what is entailed in the preparation or for adult confirmation, please call Jake Linxweiler at 483-5571. The program will begin in the Fall.
